Black Widow, portrayed by Scarlett Johansson, made her first appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe starring in Iron Man 2. Now, after about eight years of waiting, fans will finally get to see her star in her own standalone movie. The studio has hired screenwriter Jac Schaeffer to write a script for the currently untitled film. A final green light hasn't been given since the project is still in the early stages of development, but it's a great sign that Marvel is getting the ball rolling. This will be Shaeffer's first time working in the Marvel Universe.
She had previously worked on titles such as Olaf’s Frozen Adventure as well as the upcoming film Nasty Women, a female-led remake of the Steve Martin and Michael Caine comedy Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.
While it's too early to tell if the Black Widow movie will end up in theaters, Marvel's lineup of "phase three" films currently runs through 2019, so the potential for this movie ending up in the cinematic universe before then is pretty slim.
