People who like to wake up to a cup of coffee and read the newspaper are in for some fantastic news. Apple will be providing a hands-free news podcast system powered by Siri in the upcoming iOS 11.2.5 beta release. What does this mean for Apple and news lovers alike? To get the latest news, all you have to do is have your phone readily available and say "Hey Siri, give me the news." That's it! You'll receive news updates from credible sources like The Washington Post, NPR, and CNN. Other news sources like Fox News will also be included.
The feature was originally designed for devices without a display, including CarPlay and HomePod. However iOS users will also be able to take full advantage of its features.
Interestingly, this feature does not appear to work the same way when Siri is activated manually. Holding down the Home button and then proceeding to ask the virtual assistant for the news will result in Siri offering its pre-beta response to the prompt - a simple list of Apple News and Safari news headlines. It's possible that this is just a safeguard intended to prevent users from playing a news podcast manually while driving.
Other news sources will be added to the library soon, but the ones provided by default should be enough for everyone to get their feet wet on the new feature.
iOS 11.2.5 Public Beta 5 is released and is possibly the last beta release before the full version is available to the public. There is currently no word on when the full version of iOS 11.2.5 will be released, but it could be any day now.
