Fan theories about Luke Skywalker turning to the Dark Side are erupting everywhere you look. Director Rian Johnson chimes in on the theory.Everything from The Last Jedi's latest trailer to our post 'Is Luke Skywalker on the path to the Dark Side?' teases some upcoming possibilities with Luke's character in the next film of the Star Wars saga.
The Hollywood Reporter asked Rian Johnson, director of The Last Jedi, to shed some light on the theories of Luke Skywalker heading to the Dark Side. Although he can't reveal key plot points of the upcoming film, he said he does enjoy seeing fans poring over every scrap and detail of information they can find and try to figure it out for themselves. Hamill Himself has been having fun teasing fans with what could happen as well and entertaining to say the least.
Here's what Johnson had to say:
"Having been a Star Wars fan myself for the past 40 years, having spent most of my life on the other side of the curtain, I know the anticipation and the guesswork and theorizing is all part of the fun and game of it. So I love it. I love seeing what people are thinking, seeing what they're guessing, seeing what they’re anticipating ... Each new film hopefully re-contextualizes what came before it. That’s part of the game. Yes, it's a continuation of not only The Force Awakens but also of the legacy leading up to it."
He pointed out how each film aims to "re-contextualize" what came before. So, just because Luke appears in the center of the movie posters in place of villains from past films doesn't mean that he's necessarily turning to the Dark Side. The misdirections from the trailers are keeping everyone talking, exactly what Johnson and Disney wanted everyone to do.
Either way, it's fun reading and coming up with theories, no matter how ridiculous they may seem.

Mark Hamill confirms that Luke Skywalker is NOT turning to the Dark Side.
