George R. R. Martin Explains Why He Writes Game of Thrones in DOS
George R. R. Martin explains why he writes Game of Thrones in WordStar 4.0, prehistoric word processing software for DOS, on Conan.
He explains that WordStar 4.0 for DOS does everything that he wants, without the distractions of email, the internet, and spell check popups and notifications. The interview is pretty hilarious.
For those of you who don't know of DOS, it's an acronym short for Disk Operating System, dominated the IBM PC compatible market from most of the '80's to the mid '90's. That's right, Windows 3.1 was not the beastly operating system you thought it was, as it too ran on DOS.
