If you thought Atari's end had come, think again. The company has announced a new, sleek model based on the Atari 2600 that will allow gamers to play classic games from their childhood with some modern features added.
The Atari VCS, inspired by the 2600, will allow you to play classic games from your childhood including Adventure, Asteroids, Centipede, and more. But rather than providing yet another revival to the classic games we love, the VCS will also come packed with more modernized features like the ability to access streaming services, music, and games created by independent developers.
While the new features are an added bonus and a great way to market the console to a younger generation of gamers, it still features many of the aesthetics from its original design such as its original ribbing and wood paneling.
The closing date on the Atari VCS Indiegogo campaign is coming up, but have already received an impressive $3 million in funding from over 11,000 backers. Almost 3,000% of their original $100,000 goal.
The Atari 2600 offers this amazing palette of iconic details. You got toggle switches, and wood grain, and fins, and angles. We looked at taking those core components and evolving it for a next generation.

The console can arrive at your doorstep as early as July, so make sure you check out their campaign and help fund it for some added personal bonuses.
