Everything we found out today from EA'S E3 conference and thoughts
From a Battle Royale mode in Battlefield V to Madden on the PC, there was quite a bit of juicy info we found out today from EA's conference.
EA made sure to give Star Wars fans something to look forward to by teasing a new game called Jedi: Fallen Order. While no trailer was shown, we did find out that it will be set during the dark times that took place between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. Beyond that, Star Wars Battlefront 2 is set to receive a new squad system and modes with characters being added from the Clone Wars. These characters include General Grievous, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Anakin Skywalker. Expect these updates to be released June 12th.Battlefield 5
will be receiving a Battle Royale mode when it's released, just as the new Call of Duty will have one as well. If you pre-order, now you can get Open Beta early access. If you pre-order Battlefield 5's Deluxe Edition you can get access on October 16th with the Standard Edition being set for October 19th.Unravel 2
was announced and revealed to be released today. The sequel adds a two character control system similar to what appeared in Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons or A Way Out. Also included is a local co-op mode so you can grab a friend and play through the adventure together. You can purchase Unravel 2 for $20 on PS4, Xbox One, and PC through Origin. EA and Origin Access members can play the beginning of Unravel 2 for free.
More news about Bioware’s latest title, Anthem
, was revealed. It will keep co-op separate from the story-driven experience that single player brings to the table. There will be no push to do co-op, and everything in the game can be done in single player mode if you wish to do so. No loot boxes will be included in the game, but there will be vanity items you can purchase. The main point they wanted to get across is that you will know what you are buying unlike how loot boxes work. Anthem is set to release on February 22nd, 2019 on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
Jo-Mei Games latest game Sea of Solitude
was shown off in a teaser trailer with a release date set for early 2019. Check out the trailer for this gorgeous but haunting game below. It will be released on PS4, Xbox One, and PC through Origin.
Good (or maybe bad depending on how you look at it) news for Command & Conquer
fans! The series is seeing a new title in the form of a mobile game. You can play the pre-alpha today if you are on Android (Coming to iOS at a later date) as well as an early bird bundle.
There is going to be a new option for Origin Access called "Origin Access Premiere." This subscription service, $15 a month or $100 a year, is set up to be like Netflix for EA games letting you play whenever and wherever on "various devices." The current Origin Access only offers a small amount of EA games for $5 a month or $30 a year, so this would be quite a change. Plans are set for it to release sometime later this year.
Maybe the most surprising thing to come out of the presentation was the news of Madden returning to PC
after a ten-year absence. The release is set for August 10th, but you can play early by pre-ordering the hall of fame edition on August 7th. Besides PC you can also play Madden 19 on PS4 and Xbox One.FIFA 19
also had some big news with the announcement that the European Champions league would be included after previously being in Konami’s PES series. FIFA19 is set for a release on September 28th on PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
While the conference went about how I thought it would, there were definitely some surprises I was happy to see. I honestly never thought Madden would make its way back to PC after being gone for so long. I'm skeptical of how Battlefield 5's Battle Royale mode will hold up against the competition; to be fair, I feel the same way about Call of Duty's.
As far as the new Star Wars game goes I know to stay cautious as EA has a rough history (See Visceral) in recent time.
I saw the leak of Unravel 2 before the conference happened but I was pleased to see that they added co-op, even if it is only local.
Sea of Solitude looks beautiful and right up my alley, and I would love to see EA continue their trend of funding indies if it gives us games like this.
I was never a fan of Command & Conquer, so it does not really bother me that they are making a mobile game in the series. If anything, I see that as raising the chances of seeing a full-blown entry in the series if it does well.
My biggest fear from Anthem is that it is going to be like Icarus and get too close to the sun. It sounds terrific on paper, but I'm not sure if it'll make a big enough profit to make EA happy in the end. I hope it does amazing because I want more Dragon Age and to a lesser extent more Mass Effect from Bioware.
The Origin Access Premiere is intriguing, and I cannot wait to hear more details about this as it gets closer to release. I hope that all of their games, including new releases, will be available for streaming with a subscription. I've never been much of a soccer fan, but it seems like a big deal that they took one of the features PES had over FIFA so it will be interesting to see what Konami does with PES moving forward.
Thanks for reading the article! I plan on being back with even more E3 news very soon so stay tuned to the site for future info.
