Daddio’s review of Ukhar in this edition of Indie Game Spotlight
Ukhar is a top-down take on the Zelda style of games that you can pick up for yourself at the low price of $0.99 on Steam. I bought this when it first came out and planned on doing a review then but better late than never! If you enjoyed A Link to the Past I have a good feeling you will enjoy this.
When this first came out, I tried to keep my expectations low because I've played a lot of Zelda-likes and they are not always up to par. Considering the price this is a surprisingly well-made action title; the combat is decent enough to not slow you down from struggling with the mechanics.
While the music didn't stand out a ton to me it did sound pretty good, so I would not count it as a negative. I quite liked the options that came with this game, such as switching between your health being displayed as spheres, health bar, or hearts.
Sections are short enough to avoid becoming tedious, and it's always fun to find the shopkeeper and buy upgrades. I fought the first boss in my time with the game, and even though it was quite easy, it still held my attention throughout.
My only minor complaints that I could think of is that enemies can spawn on top of you if you aren’t careful when first going into a new room. Also, the charged attack always sounds like a sword no matter what weapon you have equipped it seems. Although it sat in my ever growing backlog of cool looking Steam games, I am delighted with it and glad I purchased it.
Thanks for reading the review! If this sounds up your alley be sure to pick it up on Steam to help support the dev, it is super cheap and a good time.Ukhar
