Nicalis announced two name games which will both include characters from games previously published such as Quote from Cave Story and Issac from The Binding of Isaac.Crystal Crisis is a puzzle-fighter that was announced earlier today for the Nintendo Switch and will be released in the fall of this year. Blade Strangers is a fighting game set to release this summer for the Nintendo Switch, Playstation 4, and Steam. Both of these games will include characters from games Nicalis has published, such as Quote from Cave Story and Isaac from The Binding of Isaac.
From the details given by Nicalis, we know that Crystal Crisis will have 19 playable characters including Quote and Curly Brace from Cave Story, Isaac from The Binding of Isaac, Atom and Black Jack from Tezuka Productions and "many more." You build up your burst gauge with repeated combos to execute more powerful attacks.
I really love this next info, being a huge fan of single player games and experiences. It will include multiple single player game modes including arcade, survival mode, tag team, and training mode. No need to fret if you're into multiplayer! Also included will be local and online multiplayer options. One of the coolest features that have me excited for this is what they call a "wrap-around" feature; it allows you to move falling pieces beyond the edges of the wall to reappear on the other side.
I'm pretty sure we would all be masters of Tetris if this feature were around then. Each character will have their own stage, musical theme, unique special attacks, and voice acted exclamations. I am super pumped to hear what Quote from Cave Story and Isaac from The Binding of Isaac sound like specifically. The last thing I wanted to mention that they have talked about is the Colorblind mode to help color blind players differentiate blocks.
Nicalis tweeted out the announcement of Crystal Crisis earlier today and the uncut Blade Strangers intro:
What we know so far is that the fighter roster for Blade Strangers includes characters from previous Studio Saizensen games (like Code of Princess and Sayonara Umihara Kawase), Nicalis games (like Cave Story+) and other "surprise entrants." This next info sounds awesome; I cannot wait to see how they all turn out!
"Proprietary development system transforms 3-D models and animation into 2-D sprite-work; every frame looks like a gorgeous anime drawing."
It will have online competition with "minimum input lag."
The last thing I wanted to mention is that it touts accessible controls which I am personally thankful for as I have never been that great at fighting games.
Thanks for reading the article! Are you excited about either of these games? If so, which characters are you most excited about?
