The Last Jedi Blu-Ray and DVD Release Date Revealed

The Last Jedi Blu-Ray and DVD Release Date Revealed

Disney and Lucasfilm announced today that the release of The Last Jedi is coming soon and will be in both physical and digital formats, including 4K Ultra HD.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi has already been out in theaters for a few months, and it seems that the home video release is coming a bit sooner than many expected. Mark your calendars for March 27, because that's when you'll be able to enjoy the film in the comfort of your own living room.

The Last Jedi is the first cinematic Star Wars film ever to be released in 4K Ultra HD format. The release of The Force Awakens came around the same time as the first 4K Blu-ray disc release back in early 2016 and never made it to Ultra HD. At least, not yet.

In addition to 4K resolution, The Last Jedi's home video releases will feature support for Dolby Atmos audio and high dynamic range (HDR) color through Dolby Vision. As confirmed by director Rian Johnson on Twitter, he and Steve Yedlin, director of photography, personally oversaw the HDR pass:

The home video release will include two hours of bonus footage, 14 deleted scenes, and a feature-length documentary, The Director and the Jedi, focusing primarily on the director of the film, Rian Johnson. Another featurette, Balance of the Force, will explore the mythology of the Force and explain why Johnson chose to approach its role in such a unique way.

Best Buy and Target will be offering their own exclusive versions of The Last Jedi in North America, as usual. Best Buy will be offering a copy of the movie with Steelbook cases for both the Blu-ray and 4K Blu-ray versions. The Blu-ray version will cost $29.99 while the 4K Blu-ray version will be a bit more at $34.99. Both Blu-ray packages will include both DVD and digital copies, as well. Target's Blu-ray set will also include a DVD along with a 40-page booklet about the film and an exclusive featurette called "Meet the Porgs." Target's version will initially sell for $27.99.

And great news for you video streamers out there, The Last Jedi will be available for digital streaming on Tuesday, March 13th, a few weeks before the Blu-Ray and DVD releases. If you're like me, you'll end up getting both so you can watch it early but still have a physical copy with all the bonus features.

A new trailer has also emerged for the home video release announcement (below). I honestly thought this did the movie more justice than the original teaser and full-length trailers combined.
