I don't mean this to be another blog post spreading bias and negativity about the Star Wars franchise and the new(ish) sequel trilogy and anthology films, but after watching the teaser trailers for Solo: A Star Wars Story this morning, I'm a little underwhelmed. The trailer that everyone has been waiting for has finally arrived. A teaser trailer was shown last night during the Super Bowl, and another longer trailer arrived this morning on Good Morning America. But, despite the positive feedback it's receiving, I'm still left wanting more, waiting for that "wow" factor.
There were some notable things to mention though, so let's dig into the trailer.
Some of our favorite characters are returning
The trailer shows Han Solo (Alden Ehrenreich), Lando Calrissian (Donald Glover), and Chewbacca strapped into the cockpit of the Millennium Falcon, evading an Imperial star cruiser and adding some of that humor we all love from the galaxy far, far away.
Alden Ehrenreich is a tough sell for me. I'm having a hard time believing he's pulled off the character of Han Solo since, in the trailer, he doesn't really seem to portray him at all. Donald Glover as Lando, however... we don't get to see much of him, but he looks damn sexy in the teaser.
The Millennium Falcon returns
The fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy returns, and it looks brand new! It's possible we'll get to see the construction of the Millennium Falcon at some point in the movie before Han and the gang set off on their adventure. And by the looks of it, the rumors are true about the mandibles missing from the front, meaning this was one of the modifications Han made after acquiring the ship.
Some new characters are introduced
Qi'ra, played by Emilia Clarke, is finally introduced, but her character remains a huge mystery. In the trailer, she says to Han "I may be the only person who knows what you really are." Implying that she and Han have a history together, possibly as long-time friends from his home planet Corellia. She could also be a brand new character as a potential love interest or a character that Disney brought back from the no longer canon Expanded Universe.
Also introduced is Tobias Beckett, played by Woody Harrelson. It seems that his character sets the connection between Han, Lando, and Chewy, and he may also be the one who initiates the Kessel Run. This would make sense seeing as how the team is being briefly chased by the Empire in one of the scenes.
For those who don't know or need a refresher, The Kessel Run was the most heavily used smuggling route in the Galactic Empire, used by smugglers and freight captains to move spice from the mines of Kessel at the behest of the Pyke Syndicate.
This all builds up to one of the most famous ideas that never came to be (visually), until maybe now! I don't doubt that we'll get to see the heroes in action and see how the Kessel Run actually played out.

Overall, the trailers were visually stunning and the trailer from Good Morning America had a James Bond tone set to it. Regardless of the film's past production troubles and scathing rumors, I am skeptical about how it's going to turn out, but I really am hoping for a great movie. And, with Ron Howard behind it as Director, I believe we'll get one.
